Masseria Mongio dell Elefante ****

Location 

Majestically positioned on the Otranto coastline, five kilometres from the city in the Salento region, the Masseria Mongiò dell’Elefante is nestled in beautiful countryside, just 300 metres from the stunning Baia dei Turchi (Bay of the Turks) and three kilometres from the Alimini lakes.

All the main attractions of the Salento peninsula are within easy driving distance from the farmhouse.

The Brindisi-Papola Casale airport is about 90 km away.

Hotel

The welcoming atmosphere of the Masseria is the result of a long, carefully curated renovation in which the old farm buildings on the Mongiò family estate were brought back to life.

The restoration work has successfully retained a sense of continuity with the past whilst respecting the environment. The choice was, in fact, made to use eco-friendly materials and colours and to exclusively use electrical power from renewable sources.

Today, Masseria Mongiò is an authentic place, conveniently located between the sea and the countryside, which offers its guests excellent solutions in terms of well-being and comfort: spacious relaxation areas, an outdoor pool, spa, restaurant, plus 17 independent ultra-comfortable suites surrounded by nature.

Rooms

The 17 suites in the Masseria Mongiò are a welcoming series of rooms, which vary in size and layout, but all featuring the typical architectural elements of the Salento region: a predominance of white and the use of local material.

The suites, which sleep from three to five people, all have independent entrances and terraces or private gardens. Included: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, two TVs, minibar, safe, en suite bathroom with shower.

Wellness Centre

The Masseria offers its guests the exclusive use of the hypogeum, an oasis of relaxation just for them, featuring a jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna, sensory shower and herbal tea area. Massages can be booked in your room or outside on the terrace where you can enjoy the view.

There is also a special welcome gift for guests: the Wellness Check, carried out by the physio-kinesiotherapist, Dr Roberto Monesi, who will provide guests with a personal profile, helping them to navigate the universe of holistic massages. This service must be booked at the reception.

Beach

A shaded, 300-metre-long path leads from the hotel to the splendid Baia dei Turchi, a magnificent setting with Caribbean colours, where, according to tradition, the Ottomans landed in 1480. The bay, which is partly concealed by a forest of pine trees and holm oaks, has a white sandy beach and water in shades of turquoise.

The beach is mainly free, but there is a well-equipped area with sunbeds and beach umbrellas based on a first-come, first-serve basis (reservations cannot be made).  The Lido Tropea beach area which is about three km from the Masseria, however, accepts advance reservations.

Restaurant

The Masseria offers a fish and vegetable-based menu in keeping with its location in the countryside, but just a stone’s throw from the sea. Traditional Salento dishes are served with a modern twist, offering the best products in the region sourced from the local farming community.
The cellar offers a selection of top-quality Apulia wines.

Services & Activities

The price of your stay includes the buffet breakfast, access to the communal areas and the outdoor (seasonal) swimming pool, plus bikes made available for use by guests.

Free Wi-Fi connection is available throughout the structure.

The use of the Spa and massages entails a supplementary charge.

The reception is open 24h. Check-in is possible from 3 pm onwards and check-out up until 10.30 am. Late check-out is possible on request, depending on availability, at extra charge.
